Size and Measurement Guide

Size and Measurement Guide

Choosing the right blade size is essential for getting the most out of your Wild Hunt Steel knife. This guide explains how we measure our blades and helps you choose the right size for your intended use.

How We Measure Our Knives

Blade Length

Blade length is measured from the tip of the blade to the point where the blade meets the handle (the bolster or guard). This is the most commonly referenced measurement when describing knife size.

Overall Length

Overall length is measured from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle. This gives you the total size of the knife when held in the hand.

Handle Length

Handle length is the distance from the bolster or guard to the end of the handle. A longer handle provides more grip surface, which is important for larger hands or heavy-duty tasks.

Chef Knife Sizes

8-Inch Chef Knives

The 8-inch chef knife is the most versatile size for home and professional kitchen use. It is long enough for most cutting tasks but short enough to maintain precise control. Most of our individual chef knives fall in this range.

10 to 12-Inch Chef Knives and Cleavers

Larger blades like our 12-inch Shard Blade Titan and Vanguard cleavers are designed for heavy-duty butchering and professional kitchen use. The extra length provides maximum chopping power and is preferred by professional butchers and chefs working with large cuts of meat.

Hunting and Outdoor Knife Sizes

6 to 8-Inch Hunting Knives

Most of our hunting and skinner knives fall in the 6 to 9-inch blade length range. A 6 to 7-inch blade is ideal for skinning and field dressing, while an 8 to 9-inch blade provides more versatility for camp tasks and heavier cutting.

Kukri Blades

Our King's Valor Damascus Kukri features a 9-inch curved blade. The kukri's curved profile means the effective cutting length is slightly different from a straight blade of the same measurement.

Fillet Knife Sizes

Our Damascus fillet knives are designed for precision fish filleting. The thin, flexible blade is optimized for following the contours of fish bones and skin. Fillet knife blade length typically ranges from 6 to 9 inches in our collection.

Ulu Knife Sizes

Our ulu knives feature blade widths of 5.8 to 6 inches. The ulu is measured differently from standard knives due to its semicircular shape. The blade width determines the cutting arc of the ulu.

Sword Sizes

Our replica swords range from 22 inches overall length for the Hobbit Sting to 42 inches overall length for the Anduril Narsil and Zelda Master Sword. Blade lengths range from 13 inches to 30 inches. All sword dimensions are listed in the individual product descriptions.

Axe Sizes

Our Viking axes vary in head size and handle length depending on the model. Throwing axes are designed with a specific weight and balance for accurate throwing, while hatchets are optimized for chopping and camp use.

Choosing the Right Size for You

For kitchen use, an 8-inch chef knife is the best all-around choice for most cooks. For heavy butchering, choose a 10 to 12-inch cleaver. For hunting and outdoor use, a 7 to 9-inch blade provides the best balance of versatility and portability.
