Cleaver Knives Guide

Cleaver Knives Guide

The cleaver is one of the most powerful and versatile tools in any kitchen. Wild Hunt Steel's hand-forged cleaver collection combines raw power with artisan craftsmanship, producing blades that are as beautiful as they are functional.

What Is a Cleaver Knife

A cleaver is a large, heavy-bladed knife designed for chopping through bone, thick cuts of meat, and dense vegetables. Unlike a standard chef knife, the cleaver's weight does the work, making it ideal for tasks that require force and precision simultaneously.

Our Cleaver Collections

Damascus Steel Cleavers

Our Damascus cleavers combine the visual beauty of layered Damascus steel with the raw power of a heavy blade. The Shard Blade Vanguard features a 12-inch hammered Damascus blade with a natural black wood handle. The Rhino Tanto series offers an 8-inch Damascus tanto-style cleaver with an integrated bottle opener, available in natural wood, caramel dyed bone, and blue dyed bone handles.

Carbon Steel Cleavers

Our 1095 high carbon steel cleavers are built for serious kitchen work. The Timberfang, Bloodroot Cleaver, Ironwood Butcher, Phantom Ember, and Mustang Edge are all hand-hammered carbon steel cleavers with a range of handle options including rosewood, natural hardwood, and laminated wood.

Themed and Artistic Cleavers

For those who want a cleaver with personality, our themed collection includes the Tiger's Roar with a hammered texture and red-black resin handle, the Emberfang and Verdant Reaper with bloody forged textures, and the Verdant and Ember Cleavers with natural wood and colored resin handles.

Cleaver Sizes

12-Inch Cleavers

Our 12-inch cleavers like the Shard Blade Titan and Vanguard are designed for heavy-duty butchering and professional kitchen use. The extra length provides maximum chopping power and leverage.

8-Inch Cleavers

Our 8-inch cleavers offer a balance of power and maneuverability, suitable for both home and professional kitchens. The Rhino Tanto series is a popular choice in this size.

Handle Options

Our cleavers are available with rosewood, natural hardwood, black wood, caramel dyed bone, blue dyed bone, green bone, orange and black laminated wood, and resin handles. Each handle is shaped for a secure, comfortable grip during heavy use.

Caring for Your Cleaver

After use, hand wash your cleaver with warm soapy water and dry immediately. Apply mineral oil to the blade periodically to prevent rust. Never use a cleaver on a glass or ceramic cutting board. Visit our Blade Care and Maintenance Guide for full details.
